Definition Thermostat: A thermostat is a component, that serves for keeping a temperature within a range, that acceptable for operation. With a liquid cooling, the temperature is controlled by a thermostat. Before reaching the operational temperature, the thermostat is closed, so that the water only passes the engine and the cooling water pump.
