Engine Oil

Synonym: Oil

A.T.U. - Verschleissteile für Ihr Auto
Definition Engine Oil: In a combustion engine, there are many parts, that rotate with high velocity or rub against other parts with high speed. Therefore a lubricant is necessary exigently, as the wearout and the overheating through the friction would destroy the engine in no time. There are engine oils in many variations and qualities. Usually one has the choice between mineral oil, extracted from crude oil, or the a bit more expensive synthetic oil. The important thing is to at least comply the vehicle manufacturers requirements. Normally different oil brands should be mixable, but mixing synthetic with mineral oil should be refrained from as a precaution. Besides lubrication, engine oil also has a cooling function and is to enclose and thereby defang combustion residues, hence the increasingly dark coloring.
