Automotive glossary: What is a Charge Air Cooler or Intercooler? (Abbr.: CAC)

Definition of Charge Air Cooler: In order to improve the engine capacity of turbo charger or compressor engines, a charge air cooler is often installed. As cooler air is more dense, within the same volume, in comparison with warmer air, there is also more oxygen contained. So in an equal cylinder filling, at the same time there can be inserted and burned more fuel, which enhances the energy yield.
